Senate Sneaks In Language To Bill Restricting Motorcycle And ATV Usage To Public Land
Thursday, 26 March 2009 04:09
The Senate was apparently not happy with the defeat of bill S. 22, the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009, so it used a little known parliamentary procedure to sneak it in to another legislation.
The new legislation, H.R. 146, known as the Revolutionary War and War of 1812 Battlefield Acquisition Grant PASSED the Senate on March 19th and is now up for consideration in the House. This bill, if passed, will prohibit all motorized vehicles (motorcycles, atvs, etc.) access on more than 2 million acres of public lands. And, this bill doesn't even need the normal two-thirds majority to pass, it would pass with a simple majority.
Since this is a pressing issue with little time to react, the AMA is encouraging all motorcyle and all terrain vehicle riders to contact their representatives directly by phone, email or fax and request them to vote "NO" on HR 146.

UPDATE: This bill DID pass the House And Senate.
