chopperchickcrewAn all female bike builder team will be assembling a custom designed chopper on Builders Row at the Daytona Speedway on March 8th. Starting at 10:00am the ladies will begin assembling the Pink Ribbons Chopper in front of a live audience with a goal to finish the whole project in eight hours or less. The Chopper Chick Crew includes Athena Ransom of Vagabond Choppers, JoAnn Bortles of Crazy Horse Painting, Jayme Gray of Pussycat Choppers, Katie Putnam of Mitch Bergeron Customs and Sarah Lyon of Magnum Cycles. These ladies are all veterans of the motorcycle industry who have been wrenching/riding for years.

For Athena, the organizer of the project, this is a dream that has come to reality. It all started two years ago with an idea from her then 12 year old daughter Desiree. After participating with her mom in several activities to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer, Desiree planted the seed with Athena suggesting that she build a chopper and donate it to raise money for breast cancer. Athena contacted the National Breast Cancer foundation with the idea and began working on getting the the parts donated for the project. She asked her vendors for help and was surprised by the reception and eagerness to assist. Everything from the nuts and bolts to the frame and tank have been donated. The ladies in the Chopper Chick Crew have all donated their time and elbow grease to the project and Builders Row has donated the space for the event. It was very important to Athena that this project be a 100% charitable donation.

Once the Pink Ribbons Chopper is complete the bike will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation to assist in promotional and fund raising efforts. The National Breast Cancer Foundation assists in providing free mammograms for those who cannot afford the service and helps educate women on the benefits of early detection.

Be sure to come out to Builders Row at the Speedway on March 8th to cheer these ladies on! For more information check out the Chopper Chick Crew and The National Breast Cancer Foundation.
